64 - 73 Ford Mustang Parts

The 1964 - 1973 early Mustangs spawned a fantastic new generation of American automobiles. This era of Ford Mustangs would later come to be known as pony cars. These Mustangs, with their long front ends, short rear decks and sporty looks, made the 1964 - 1973 Mustangs a Manufactures dream. Many manufactures tried to duplicate this Mustang but couldnt come close to capturing the spirit that this orignal Ford Mustang brought to the car buyers.

original 1964 mustang ad The 1964 Ford Mustang, Later called the 1964 1/2 Mustang , was only available in two models: the Mustang coupe and the Mustang convertible. Both Ford Mustang models featured a longer hood and shortened rear deck, chrome wrapped bumpers, a chromed out grille , and full wheel covers. Both Mustang models were available with a 170 cid, 101 horsepower, 6 cylinder engine, a 260-2V, 164 horsepower V-8, a 289-4V, 210 horsepower V-8 and, starting in June, a 4 barrel, solid lifter, 271 horsepower, 289 cid V-8 engine. The Mustang buyer now had a choice of a 3 speed, 4 speed or automatic transmission, and a nice variety of rear end gear ratios. The interior now featured "wall-to-wall" interior carpeting, front bucket seats or the the choice of an optional front and rear bench seat. The 1964 Mustang interior also featured a sports car style steering wheel, and a floor mounted shifter. Ford produced a total of 121,538 1964 Mustangs.

1965 Ford Mustang Fastback The 1965 Ford Mustang offered up few changes for the Mustang. The biggest change in the 1965 Mustang was the availability of the new fastback model, which was later to become the basis for Carroll Shelby's GT350. Along with engine upgrades some of the other changes for the 1965 Ford Mustang included: the use of an alternator instead of a generator, relocation of the oil filler, integral power steering pump and resevoir (the majority of 1964½'s had a remote mounted resevoir), a wire retaining ring was added to the gas cap, and smaller horns. A new interior option was also added, the interior decor group better known as the pony interior. Ford produced a total of 559,451 1965 Mustangs
